These Terms apply to all visitors, users, contributors, and community members who interact with our website, community forum, event registration pages, Discord server, or any other CLC-operated digital space.

1. Acceptance of Terms

Your use of any CLC platform constitutes your agreement to these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated here by reference. We reserve the right to update or modify these Terms at any time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this document. Continued use of our platforms after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.

2. About Culture Lab Collective

Culture Lab Collective is a co-founded creative collective, not a single-owner enterprise. Our programs span media and storytelling, arts and culture, entrepreneurship, and technology and innovation. Our platforms exist to inform, connect, and amplify Black creatives; they do not constitute professional legal, financial, medical, or business advice. Any content published on our platforms is for informational and creative purposes only.

3. Eligibility

Our platforms are intended for users who are at least 13 years of age. By using any CLC platform, you represent that you meet this age requirement. Users between the ages of 13 and 17 should have parental or guardian awareness of their participation. CLC reserves the right to terminate access for any user who misrepresents their age or eligibility.

4. User Conduct

When participating in any CLC community space, including our website comment sections, community forum, and Discord server, you agree to conduct yourself in a manner consistent with CLC’s values and community standards. You agree not to:

  • Post, share, or distribute content that is harassing, threatening, defamatory, discriminatory, or abusive toward any individual or group

  • Share content that infringes on the intellectual property rights of any third party, including copyrighted text, images, music, or video

  • Submit or distribute spam, unsolicited advertisements, or promotional content without CLC’s prior written approval

  • Impersonate another person, organization, or CLC co-founder or team member

  • Attempt to access, interfere with, or disrupt any part of CLC’s platforms, servers, or networks

  • Use CLC’s platforms for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable local, state, national, or international law or regulation

  • Submit AI-generated creative work, including but not limited to AI-generated music, visual art, photography, illustration, or video, in violation of CLC’s Content Policy

CLC reserves the right to remove any content and to suspend or terminate the access of any user who violates these conduct standards, at our sole discretion and without prior notice.

5. Blog Comments

CLC may offer the ability to comment on published articles and blog posts. By submitting a comment, you grant CLC a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual license to display, reproduce, and distribute your comment in connection with the relevant content. You are solely responsible for the content of your comments and represent that they do not infringe on the rights of any third party.

CLC reserves the right to moderate, edit, or remove comments at our discretion, including comments that are off-topic, promotional, harmful, or otherwise inconsistent with our community standards. Comments do not represent the views of CLC or its co-founders.

6. Community Forum

CLC’s on-site community forum is a space for members to connect, share resources, and engage in dialogue relevant to Black creatives and the creative industries. Participation in the forum is subject to the conduct standards outlined in Section 4 above, as well as any additional guidelines posted within the forum itself.

By posting in the forum, you grant CLC a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display and distribute your posts within the platform. You retain ownership of original content you create, but you acknowledge that CLC cannot guarantee the confidentiality of anything shared in a community space. Do not share sensitive personal or financial information in public forum threads.

7. Event Registration

CLC may host free and paid events, workshops, panels, and programs. When you register for a CLC event, you agree to provide accurate registration information and to comply with any event-specific terms, codes of conduct, or access instructions communicated at the time of registration.

CLC reserves the right to cancel, reschedule, or modify events at any time. In the event of a cancellation by CLC, registrants will be notified using the contact information provided at registration. For any events that involve a registration fee, refund terms will be specified at the time of registration.

Photography, video, or audio recording at CLC events may occur. By registering for and attending a CLC event, you acknowledge that you may appear in event documentation and that CLC may use such materials for promotional or archival purposes.

8. Intellectual Property

CLC Content

All original content published on CLC’s platforms, including articles, graphics, logos, editorial copy, and site design, is the property of Culture Lab Collective or its respective contributors and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, republish, distribute, or create derivative works from CLC’s content without our prior written permission, except as expressly permitted by applicable law.

Contributor Content

Content submitted by contributors remains the intellectual property of the individual creator, subject to the terms of any Contributor Agreement in place. By submitting content to CLC without a separate agreement, you grant CLC a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to publish, display, and distribute your submission in connection with CLC’s platforms and programming.

Third-Party Content

CLC’s platforms may include links to or references from third-party websites, resources, or creators. We do not own or control third-party content and are not responsible for its accuracy, legality, or appropriateness. Links to third-party sites do not constitute endorsement by CLC.

9. AI-Generated Content Policy

CLC does not accept AI-generated creative work on any of its platforms. This includes, but is not limited to, AI-generated music, visual art, photography, illustration, and video. We define AI-generated work as any creative output produced primarily by an artificial intelligence tool, regardless of human prompting or curation. This policy applies to submissions, forum posts, comments, and any other content shared within CLC spaces.

Users who submit or misrepresent AI-generated work as human-made creative work may have their content removed and their access to CLC platforms revoked. This policy reflects CLC’s commitment to centering and compensating human creativity in all its forms.

10. Disclaimers

CLC’s platforms and content are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that our platforms will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components. CLC makes no representations regarding the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any content published on our platforms.

Nothing published on CLC’s platforms constitutes professional legal, financial, medical, creative, or business advice. Readers and community members should seek qualified professional guidance for their individual circumstances.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Culture Lab Collective and its co-founders, team members, contributors, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, CLC’s platforms or content, even if CLC has been advised of the possibility of such damages. CLC’s total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms shall not exceed the amount you paid to CLC, if any, in the twelve months preceding the claim.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Culture Lab Collective and its co-founders, team members, contributors, and affiliates from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising out of or in connection with your use of CLC’s platforms, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.

13. Governing Law

These Terms of Use shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States and the state in which CLC is registered, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any dispute arising under these Terms that cannot be resolved informally shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in that state.

14. Changes to These Terms

CLC reserves the right to update these Terms of Use at any time. We will indicate the date of the most recent revision at the top of this document.
